This week saw Costa start their new adventure in the Valencian Federation League playing 11 - side football which is new to most of their players. Costa made the trip to Almoradi "A" team this week and from the start looking at the size of the opponents it was going to be a tough 80 minutes ahead. Costa found themselves in trouble from the opening couple of minutes and gave away two free kicks down their right side which on the second they got punished by not closing down the home team after the ball had been cleared to the edge of their area. This led to an unmarked & unchallenged Almoradi player to smash the ball into the Costa net on 3 mins. To the credit of the Costa players they slowly built in confidence and started to create their own chances and also with great performances from L.J. Nicholas & Aidan Sullivan in defence and the desire and work rate of Jake Burnip in midfield  Costa stood firm for the next 28 minutes ,but then on 31 mins ,33 mins & 39 mins totally fell to pieces and Almoradi went into half time with a flattering 4 - 0 advantage.
Team talk at half time was simple which was to stop giving the ball away cheaply and to show some heart in their tackles. The opening 10 mins in the second half did seem to be an improvement but on 50 mins for the first time in the match Costa got caught ball watching down their left side and allowed an unmarked player to slot in an  Almoradi  5th goal. Costa made several changes which included moving Aidan Sullivan to center of midfield which improved Costa possesion but once again left the left side open for another attack were an Almoradi player was allowed to put in a cheap cross which led to Costa keeper Jordan Marshall recieving a nasty injury and an own goal. Costa's misery continued on 76 mins when the home side snatched a seventh goal and to end the tie  7 - 0 to the home side. A lot of work to be done on the training field this week before the visit of Bigastro next Saturday 22nd at Playa Flamenca for Costa's first home game of the season.

This was Costa's first home game of the season and Bigastro were the visitors. The opening 20 mins of the game were quite even with both teams having chances. Bigastro however took advantage of some slack tracking back from the Costa midfield and opened up the home defence on 18 mins. This seemed to knock the confidence on some Costa players who then drifted out of the game and did'nt compete in tackles and were unable to hold the ball for a period of time in which Bigastro took full advantage and added more misery on 23,28,30 & 34 mins to go 5 - 0 up with no reply. Gummi Gudmundsson , Aiden Sullivan and Charlie Frost  and the tiredless tracking down of lone striker Patrick Bass kept Costa going and on 36 mins Costa got their 1st ever federation goal from a free kick on the right from way outside the area converted by Alex. Unfortunately the visitors added a further goal of their own just before half time on 39 mins to go in at half time 6 - 1 up.
Second half saw the young Costa players play with more believe and also mixed it up with some tough tackling which to the referee's credit let the game flow. Luke Deegan, Gummi Gudmundsson & Aiden Sullivan teased the visitors with some great trickery and skill on the ball going forward which led to some Bigastro players lashing out and picking up a couple of yellow cards on the way. Costa dispite the scoreline seemed to have rattled the visitors but just could'nt finish of several great attacks. Bigastro on the other hand hurt Costa on the counter attack and added two further goals on 52 & 55 mins. This did'nt unlike the first half knock Costa's  spirit and for the final 20 minutes entertained the home crowd with a superb display and with Gudmundsson causing havoc in the visitors box this created a chance for Jack O'Brien to get Costa's second on 72 mins to the delight of the home fans. Bigastro to their credit finished of any chance they created and on 77 mins added a further goal to take the 3 points.
Next week see's Costa travel to Santa Domingo C.F.

Week 3 in the Valencian Federation League saw Costa travel away to Orihuela to play Santo Domingo. On a terrible mud pitch it was very difficult for both teams to play attractive football and in the opening 30 mins the game was very even although Costa went down a goal on 7 mins when they were undone for pace down their right side. Costa enjoyed most of the possession but couldn't penetrate the home defence. Sam Broadway saw a great effort hit the post and then minutes later the home side were awarded a penalty on 30 mins although the Costa defender clearly touch the ball and the Domingo player dived. The penalty was converted and 6 mins later another terrible referee decision to allow a clear offside goal to stand. Things got worse just before the interval on 39 mins when the visitors defence were short for pace and couldn't handle the speed of the opposistion's strike force.

Second half and within seconds Costa should of converted a chance after some great closing down from Cope & Broadway but once again just couldn't find the net. Then a card happy referee who had handed out several yellows decided to send Charlie Frost off for a hand ball ( 61 mins)  in the middle of the park even though this was accidental. It wasn't difficult when the home players reminded it was Frost's second booking of the match. Costa now down to 10 for the next 30 mins fought like lions and got a goal on 55 mins which came from a great throwing from Jamie Cockroft to Alex Cope who smashed the net with his shot. The referee still decided to hand out more cards and was clearly not going to let the visitors have any chance of competing fairly. Costa pushed up more players in pursuit of more goals but the risk of this meant 2 mins from time Domingo scored their 5th despite some heroic defending and tracking back from Patrick Bass saw a shot hit the cross bar then luckily hit the back of the Costa keeper to go over the line.

Next Saturday Costa are at home to Oriol C.F. in a 4 pm. kick-off at Playa Flamenca Sports Center. For more information on costa then visit : www.orihuelacostafc.com or contact club secretary George  on :679 77 44 88. This week was a massive game for Costa due to the unsavoury build up all week before this a game even started. Costa the smaller and younger team started of a little nervous & could'nt get the ball out of their half for the opening 20 mins. San Miguel missed a few chances but the Costa boys defended well, with Jamie Cockroft & Glen Lawton outstanding in the heart of the defence. Costa could of taken the lead when a break down the left by Aidan Sullivan saw his effort go just wide. On 25 mins San Miguel were awarded a free kick which saw Joaquin Pedraza convert the effort to take a 1 - 0 lead to the delight of the hostile home crowd. But to Costa's credit they bounced back on 26 mins with Aidan Sullivan netting his first goal for his new club. Now Costa had the believe to go on and attack and with Jake Burnip,Adam Walker & Callum Gildeaa dominating midfield it was Costa 's passing on a very difficult surface which upset the home team & they found it hard to live with. San Miguel always looked dangerous with their long ball tactics & with older players & using players from other teams to help their cause but it was Costa who didnt want half time to come & were unlucky to be level at half time 1 - 1.

Costa gave 11 - side debuts to many players who all responded well including Paul Lapham, Jordan Marshall, Coner James, Alex Anger, Patrick Sullivan & Scott Brunton and in the second half on 39 mins saw Glen Lawton latch on to a cross and head the ball into the net and send the away supporters wild. Costa then took control of large periods of the game due to great effort and performances from Luke Deegan, Charlie Frost, Cesar Augusto, & Kristjan & Gummi Gudmundsson all playing the ball simple on the deck.Patrick Bass run the home defence ragged & Costa should of gone on to score more to their tally but they were estatic on the final whistle to win 2 - 1 against a well organised federation team.

A big thank you to Ariel the San Miguel manager for refereeing the game & to all his players for giving us their time allowing us to gain valuble experience & for their hospitality.

If you would like to play for friendly club with F.A. Qualified coaches & at a sensible price with fantastic facilities then come along on Tuesdays & Thursdays 18.30 - 20.00 . or contact club secretary George :679 77 44 88 or www.orihuelacostafc.com for more info.
